Another Slot Maniac Gone

Postby dolgenman » Sat Jun 08, 2013 4:25 pm

This weekend I've lost my brother and slot car nut Tom Bryner(ovalracer63). He had a stroke and the doctors could not remove the clot from his brain. He would have been 53 years of age tomorrow, way to young to go.

Tom was not only the founder of our club, Pa Scale Auto Racing, but the founder of PHORC (Pennsylvania HO Racing Club) way back in the 80's. He was a craftsman from the word go. He built some of the finest 1/32 and 1/24 sprint cars that money could buy. He also made top notch laminated paper late model and modified bodies that he had supplied to folks all over the country, including many resellers. Over the past 6 or 7 years he and I had built numerous routed tracks. Always with me being in awe of how he knew what the hell he was doing, especially when it came to wiring. There will never be anyone else like my big brother and my life will never be the same. The slot community will miss the likes of Tom, who always had time for everyone and anyone.

For me, I likely won't ever pick up a controller again, it'll just hurt too much. Racing just wouldn't be the same without him standing beside me yelling "nice move spanky". I know he'll be waiting to race with me again someday and I can't wait. RIP Tom.

That's awful. Sudden loss like that hurts more than most. But you should spend time with the other club guys to help you get past this, and pick up that controller as soon as you can. It matters. Doubling your loss by adding the loss of slot cars and a club of friends is not helpful. Besides, you need your friends beside you as you go through this.

You are in our prayers.

Sad times indeed. Condolences to you and your family.

You should pick up the controller again in a little while... He will be with you riding every turn. And you'll hear his voice in your head and smile. Those we love are never gone.

Sorry to hear this. Don't give up your hobby, I don't know your brother, but I am sure he wouldn't want you to stop racing.

I'm very sorry to hear about this.

I think picking up a controller and racing is the best way you could honor his memory.

Kelly,
Our condolences...

Agree losing your brother truly must hurt. But I'll bet if he knew you were giving up racing slotcars because he isn't there, he'd smack you aside your head.
Like others have said, the best way to remember your brother is to pick up the controller and race. It'll feel weird at first, but I think you know it's what he would want you to do...

Kelly, I only met you and your brother once, and I was totally amazed at Tom's Slot Racing aptitude and knowledge and enthusiasm. I regret not keeping in touch with you guys. Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss, and condolences to his immediate family and yours.
