I found some early drawings which might be interesting for you to see, it shows the , , fascinating thought process of designing a chassis with steering and suspension.
The first thing was to get an outline of the bodyshell, which I drew up at 2:1 scale. I put on the "fixed" items like motor, tire diameter, rear axle with gear and the steering hubs. You can see the coil springs I had on the rear already.

While doing this, I was sketching up how I thought these parts would work and how they could be manufactured

I then put these onto the CAD system in roughly the correct place

By this stage I was considering torsion bars with adjustable blocks that could slide to make them longer or shorter, the springs softer or harder.

The real benefit of 3D CAD is in 2 things - you can draw up parts and move them around to check for clearances, useful when steering or for suspension. The other advantage is you can create views of your parts and get in amongst it with a pencil!
