Opinions of the new Jaguar F-Type?

Bob - I think everything looks a little like an AM at the moment...but maybe that is just Ford spreading it out?

I personally like this Jag and think it would look great as a slot car.

If they were doing it as a secondary type offering, I would like it enough, but the long, sexy, sleek lines of Jaguar (E-Type, Mark IX, other saloon cars, etc) are not represented by the bobtailed, AM grilled, Mazda-looking thing. Its like the nightmarish the VW Beetle substitute (front-engined, liquid cooled, front drive, hideously overpriced- why did they call it Beetle?), and the new Camaro. If its a totally different kind of car, why should it have a name on it that has earned its own respect? I think Jaguar needs to also keep offering cars that look like a Jag if they are going to sell this.

Have you seen the TV ad for this thing yet? There's some huge money being spent to try and make it seem exotic.

It looks like a Honda S2000 to me, perhaps a bit wider but overall it screams S2000. Since I'm one of those folks who believe that today's cars lack character, I'm glad that they are looking to the past for inspiration when it comes to body lines. I just wish they'd look farther back than a 1999 Honda.

Completely agree with all that's been said.

Followed one in city traffic yesterday.It's a lovely car - but against an E-type, it's a great fat overinflated thing!

Much the same applies to all the modern Jaguars. The XJ 6 is the only handsome one - but not for those who don't also have their own oil well.

Hopefully Jenny will post some of her pictures -- C&D had one a few weeks back (might still have it).

It looks nice to me, and in the flesh, it's not S2000-like at all. Some pictures do seem to make it look that way, though. I think it's a great looking car, but compared to an E-type? Well, not many things can compare to an E-type. :)

Personally, I don't think it does anything for Jaguar's heritage of great styling. I agree with the others that say it looks pretty generic. Not what I would have expiated from Jaguar, unless Ford is still calling the shots.

Nice. But rather yawn worthy on styling. With the car market the way it is world wide not many willing to take design risks. Seems it's the 'safe option' all the way.

In those pictures, its not nearly the turd I thought it was from the TV commercials and that other shot. I still think its below standard for Jaguar, but it isn't awful which is what I thought.

I don't care a lot about the car, but the background that Jag put in that Series 7 slideshow for interest turned me on like a house on fire! A transporter and a Jag D! Woohoo!
