Bibbster go to your local hobby shop and get some bare metal foil they make it in gold and other colors besides chrome.

You will need to go to a micheals or other craft store and see if they have letters and number stickers that are close to the scale you are working with after your second coat of clear dries put the letters on or numbers then cover with bare metal.
I use to do this trick when I was into doing static models. It isn't fancy lettering but it fit what I wanted in the looks dept.
And put two or three coats of clear on after you get it done should last a good long time.

The letters and or numbers will be raised a bit and will not be exactly in scale put they will look good JMHO.

if you clean the tires of the truck before each heat (with sticky tape), it can do a wheelstand for the whole length of my straight on the wood track - don´t know if it´s possible on plastic as well.
the coupe get new tires, well trued, should run quite good. did not find the time to repair the damaged rear end (got rear ended during Scoobe´s proxy race some time ago). should run smooth, hope to have found the right ground clearance.

For me, 12V would be enough for those 2 cars, but no problem with 15 as well.
