TGIF - Brrrrr

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Dec 06, 2013 7:17 am

What an end to a great week.

Now that my oldest son is back home, time to get back to work.

Of course most of us are waiting for the Cougar and Challenger from Scalextric, and they will be here soon. Likely next week so keep your eyes peeled.

Bad weather for a lot of us, hope all of you are doing ok. We had some ice/snow mix but nothing major.

Had a nice box in from SCC that will help finish a couple new projects. Look forward in the fun of bringing a couple more old warriors back to life while I wait for those hot T/A cars.

Hope you all have a great weekend as well.

Want to also wish Marty (Florida_Slotter) a fast recovery as well as Cliffy and his family. Hang in there and hope to see you back with us soon.

The weather was pretty bad here yesterday, but today the wind has calmed down a bit it is still very cold, although above freezing. Tonight it's off to the club for some hot LMP racing. I will afterwards also put some laps on the NSR Aston Martin. I hope to have done enough to make as quick as or quicker than the Corvette.

We had freezing rain earlier this morning, then sleet, now it is snowing. They say we should get 5-8 inches before it ends. I'm working on a few projects today as I'm not getting out in this. :)

It's just been cold, down into the 20's, and clear here but there are clouds moving in today. Cold rain predicted for tonight and tomorrow. Our house is at about 1500 ft. elevation. That puts us at the edge of the snow line when the snow blankets the coastal hills. Our rain could turn out to be snow. Will have to wait and see.

Just checked and we have over 6 inches ( with the official weather center approved ruler) and still coming. Doesn't sound like a lot to most of you but around here it's panic city. Talking Jake and his friends sledding since school is closed then working on the tracks a bit to get ready for a visit from slot car royalty. Still planning on coming this way Harry? Weather permitting of course. Jim

Yumm... Warm puppy. But I couldn't eat a whole one.

Stay warm and safe lads. Snow is the man upstairs telling you it's ok to play with little cars. :)

I've got my toy room back after a two week invasion by a pair of 18 year old boys (His Lordship's youngest and a mate). I have a lot of catching up to do. At least 3 new cars that deserve their time in front of the camera while they are still pretty and then some tuning work on a few. Also got a Fly 250 GTO to strip for a friend. Busy times in the toy room.

In 1981, a friend and I sailed a Hunter 36 footer on Pickwick Lake during a big snow. I had never sailed in cold weather, much less snow and ice. The owner wanted us to sail the new boat for him (he had never had a big cruiser, but he was experienced at sailing smaller boats). It was amazing. I have seldom been so cold and wet, and seldom had a better evening... oh yeah, did I mention it was dark by the time we came back to the dock?

I heard from Dallas today, and they are nearly shut down by a huge dumping of ice and sleet. Trees that have withstood numerous tornadoes are falling like dominoes. The neighborhood my friend lives in is called Deep Elm (pronouced "elum" for some reason), and is an old area with lots of big trees, so they lost power very soon after the ice started forming.

Nothing will clear trees and hydro lines like a good ice storm. It just keeps piling on and freezing until she gives. Elum is a common prononciation here in the Ottawa valley. It comes from the irish who settled here in the 1800's. You had your own irish influx to Virginia in 1715. I would imagine that's where it comes from.

Deep Elm is in Dallas, though, Peter.

Getting bad here tonight. Bad accidents on I-44 closing it for awhile. Light mist keeps the roads VERY slick.
