David,

Thanks for putting this proxy together and for streaming the race. I was able to catch bits and pieces of it and enjoyed it. The shot of Harry's car with the motor dangling from the chassis was interesting, to say the least. Looks like repairs got it back in action.

Thanks again for doing this and letting us be part of it.

David -
Thanks again for a great bit of entertainment! Both the cars looked fun to drive and you track looks like a lot of fun to drive on!

Thank you for both initiating this proxy and hosting the first race! I look forward to seeing how the cars do at the next venues and hearing what the parameters for the next go around are! (I like the idea that was brought up about a tires even with the body / no flares vs a flared class - could make for some additional "interesting" variety!)

Thanks again!

Yes Dave, thanks for the work involved. That was a heck of a thing to watch, especially when I lose a motor :)

David -
Thank you for posting the results so quick!
I think the "impressions" report would be great! (both build and drive?)

Brilliant job, David!

Video link was inspired, even if the resolution wasn't that great.

Looking forward to the critique on the cars.

David.

Here we watched the UStream feed with open eyes. It was great to see the cars run and the little coments from all who watched. Plus your dog walking around. We got to see what you look like and just how you ran the cars, great. Got to see how you handled the offs, must say you can move fast. Noticed that the top cars all have flares. Maybe you could weight all the cars and post them, I think the weight has alot to do with cornering speed.

I would like it if you could let me know what I need to air on UStream

Love the reviews so far David!
Please feel free to be VERY critical on mine as I am looking for all the input I can get. I typically race on MUCH larger tracks with milder corners using either magnets (Scalextric on painted wood with magna-braid) or using foam tires on the same surface (the track owner keeps a light glue on the track at all times to cover all classes) - so building this was a notable departure from my "norm".
So as I said, I can use any insight (no matter how "critical") you can provide.
I thought I might be too heavy and/or under geared for the short oval - so I will be interested to hear your thoughts on both (along with how it handled)
Thanks again for putting together the critiques!

David - thank you for the observations on the car - it is definitely appreciated!

You are correct on the main rails, I made them from roughly .120" thick steel. It was one of those - "had it sitting here" in the scrap bucket from a non-slot car project and had no piano wire on hand to start chassis attempt #2.

I'm sure those "robust" rails make up the majority of the weight though, as believe it or not, there isn't any lead in it! It is just those rails and the brass guide tongue material (doubled up, up front to get the thickness to use the Scalextric guide).

I "think" (could be wrong) - but if you are seeing the "grey" stuff sitting on top of the steel rails, and thought that was lead, that is just double sided tape (had to go a couple layers) that I used to attach the body to the frame. :)

On the tires, I figured that the Carrera Go! tires might not be the best, but I had them on hand, and figured maybe the less bite/more slide might be a good thing...
Unfortunately though, it sounds like they slid a little toooo easy. I guess on a positive note though, between the weight and the lack of grip, she didn't seem to have any issues with "tip" during the racing! :D

Did the gearing seem about right? Or was she still accelerating all the way into the corner? I went 10-26 on the gearing, trying to make up for the short tires - but afterward, thought I may have gone a bit overboard - considering how short the straights are on these ovals and not knowing how much torque these little slim lines have. (I was using the 9-26 with taller tires that I use on the local road course as a reference - but have more motor in front of it though)

Again - definitely appreciate the feedback - figure that is all good info for my next entry!

Thanks for the info Dave,
I had a feeling using the bigger wheels would come back to haunt me but I was trying to use what I had on hand. On my track it seemed to handle good in the corners but was a dog in the straight sections. In retrospect I should have ordered the ranch design wheels for it but this is my first proxy entry so I wanted to try and keep it simple with parts I had. Even if I don't make any podium finishes it was still just a fun little project I enjoyed doing.

Outstanding!

I think Lee's car will be the one to watch on Bibbsters longer straights....

Them wheels will give it the speed on long straight for sure, My car was built for the short fast straight ( to hit top end fast ) and fast turns. Things will really change on a bigger track. Is there a photo of this track some where?

David you reports are the best I have seen
