Nice video of the testing!

Todd - I've always worn goggles / safety glasses at home. I even use ear protection due to NOT doing that earlier in life and have some hearing loss as a result. I'm very happy your Dremel didn't take you out.

Yeah - my neighbor used to look at me funny for wearing ear plugs when cutting grass (it takes me 3+ hours on a rider!) - but I find it not only a LOT easier on the ears - but also less fatiguing. So I look at is a win-win... :)
And on the Dremel - yeah - I'm glad it didn't do anything "nasty" - but boy, you realize juuuust how much you use one when all of the sudden, you don't have it and have to go back to using a drill... :(
(Gotta see about either getting parts or a replacement here asap!) :)

Better yet...they are less likely to come over and interrupt while you're mowing ;)

Like the inserts!!! Definitely has that '70's look!
Car definitely looks good and from the vid seems to run pretty darn smooth!
(I envy you guys with a home track to do tuning on!)

The Dremel issue has slowed me down - but I'm still plugging away!
Have the front mount fabbed up (and I have to say - wish I would have had .050" wire instead of .062" to do that as bending that up was ummm... entertaining with the .062"...)

Here's a shot of how the mount looks (still have to do some solder clean up - but thought I would share)

Image

Will need to do a little fine tuning on the body height as can be seen in the shot below (please ignore the rear since there is no rear mount yet) - but since I pushed the tires to the outer limits width wise, I wanted to make sure that I didn't run into rub issues with whatever body float I end up with, and figured it would be better to start too high than the other way. :)

Image

"Hopefully" tomorrow I will have the rear mounts finished and be able to get it prepped for a maiden run at the commercial track on Wednesday. (fingers crossed)

Looks pretty quick and smooth there Dave. Nice job. Like the track layout.

Looking good there Todd.

:text-thankyouyellow: Appreciate the compliments on the chassis guys!
It has been a bit of a challenge keeping everything square/straight without a jig to work from (although Razor Jon is coming to the rescue on that here shortly!) - but it has been fun just the same!

Unfortunately, I didn't get the rear mounts "complete" yet but thought I would share some more pictures... :)
(the rear mounts are at least partial done, as the side exit exhaust will serve as their base)

Here are a couple shots with the motor, guide, and exhaust/rear mount "supports".
She is together enough that I am taking it up to the track tomorrow night to turn some laps to see how it runs before gluing/truing the tires and/or having the body on there. I am hoping that it will at least give me an idea if my torsion rod type connection between the front/rear is going to be a "good" thing or "bad" thing. (you can see the rods a little easier in these pictures verses the last update)

Image

Image

Something that was a pleasant surprise - I think I have "sufficient" drift angle with this set up! (almost 90 degrees!)

Image

The height for the rear looks to be pretty close to where I was aiming for - now just have to work on securing it there (and then have to get back on getting the front end down to match)

And the bonus? The confirming shot from above that there is no tire protrusion!

Thanks Dave! I'm trying! :D
I will say that the initial shake down run last night went "well" - but did identify/confirm some things that need to be addressed. (like the tires needing to be trued/glued, the guide hole "opened up" a couple thousands, etc)
The car seemed nice and smooth and quiet, but then again, I was just running the chassis without the body on it. Adding the body will definitely raise the center of gravity and the handling dynamics I'm sure. :)
I mentioned it in the NASCAR proxy thread, but I got the impression that the H&R Hawk was a bit "weak" on this track. I had been practicing with Scalextric cars for that nights race and while it was tough to compare due to cornering speeds, it seemed as though the 18k Scaley motors were faster, even with the factory 11:36 gearing than what the 18K H&R was. I'm hoping that it was just my "perception" and/or that the speed/acceleration will pick up with more break in time (did do a no load break in on the motor for a bit before installing - but not the gears/bushings, etc.)
But so far - I am pretty happy with her! Look forward to hopefully having the mounts, tires, etc squared away for next week's trip to the track to get some break in time before starting on paint. :)
