The updated leaderboard is attached. You can see there is a tie for the lead in both classes, and some movement going on further back.

The next race is at Don's attic track, which is a tight technical track with short straights. Power should not be as important here.

Luf took video of the hill climb, one run for each car. The SCI Group 5 proxy will be running on the Targa tomorrow, so I am not sure when Luf will get it edited and posted. There will also be some more still photos to post.

Cheers

Keith

Congratulations to Doug and Luf for their victories. It continues to be close at the top in Class A, with barely one second separating the top four cars on this very difficult hill climb. There is such a premium on chassis balance and handling that the top cars in Class A would have finished fifth in Class B. That's not likely to be the story on any of the remaining courses, I suspect. What a great group of cars.

Thanks to Dan Pang, Keith and GVSCC for running the hill climb. I know GVSCC will continue to be busy, running a Gp 5 proxy on Luf's Targa today.

Congratulations to the winners and podium finishers in both classes! As Bob says, it is very tight at the top of both classes, but particularly in the A-class. Looking forward to the video of the hill climb.

Based on the results of the first two races, I can recommend not running NSR Ultragrip rubber tires in this series; unless you want to also put large road hazard/warning lights on your car........................ ;)

I was counseled wisely.............I just forgot to listen..........

Hats off to the GVSCC team who have put in an incredible number of hours getting two Targa proxy races and a round of a Gp 5 proxy completed. Excellent video taken and edited by Luf, which alone must have taken hours. :bow-blue: Your collective efforts are well appreciated.

Round #3 took place this afternoon in Don Crossley's attic on a neat little three lane routed track with very nice scenery. The track is the shortest we will be running on, and is very technical with really only one straight. Due to the abundance of proxy racing around here these days, we had a small crew for this one and decided to run only two cars at a time. We used the two outside lanes with local racers Perry and Don doing the honours. Luf had his camera and also marshalled, and I did the logistics and also marshalled. We took a break in the middle while Don's wife served us a lovely supper, and finished up in time for normal Monday evening racing to begin.

The drivers did a good job of keeping the cars in the slot, with very few offs and some excellent side by side racing. There were quite a few shuffles in the finishing order as you will see, with some cars changing their position, up or down quite a bit. Only a few cars were challenged for power on this track, though many were short on traction and had to be driven more cautiously around the many curves.

So here are the results. I will upgrade the leaderboard once I have finished posting initial results to the four forums that I am using for this proxy.

Re: GVSCC Targa Florio Proxy - A New Track Record!

Postby Retro Racer 44 » Tue Nov 17, 2015 2:42 am

Just one more bit of excitement to add before I go to bed. As we approached the fastest cars in the B class, it appeared that the track record of 5.9 was likely to be broken by these cars. First Chris Walker's #20 set a new record at 5.71, then Andy White's #4 broke it again at 5.70, but the laurels go to Allan Jarvis's #34 for an astounding 5.66. And that, my friends, is the new track record. After a couple of lower finishes, Allan's Audi had the right stuff today, and took it to the others with an impressive win.

Cheers,

Keith

Great run from the #222, seems like the anemic NC1 in that case was just right, and the 29k Slot.it in the #224 was completely the wrong choice!

Congrats to the podiumites and thanks to GVSCC for running so many races so quickly.

:o The scramble is on!

Leaving the hairpins of the hill climb and the short radius turns of Luf's Targa to a course that has more open, higher speed turns seems to require another tuning dimension from these cars. As I watched Adrienne's Group A Chaparral on the hill climb (thanks, Luf, for the excellent video) I was surprised by how quick it appeared to be, despite its 6th place finish. Don's Attic verified that quickness with a 2nd place finish. Another surprise, a 5th place finish by Bill Beggs after some lackluster positions in the first two rounds. Surprises seemed to be the rule.

Several cars continue to perform well. Chris' 908/3, Luf's Ferrari 330, and, to my delight, my 908/3 all have good fortune. Probably the surprise of Don's Attic though was Allan's Alfa 33/3 in Gp B. After finishing in 11th and 13th places in the first two round, he dominates the attic by two laps and sets a course record in the process. There was a premonition of this type of result when Keith qualified that Alfa on pole for the first round but the car evidently proved too difficult to drive consistently quickly in the slow corners.

Congratulations to the GVSCC for running such a fine proxy. After three rounds, podium positions appear wide open, especially with each new track bringing additional surprises.

What fun!
