Barc I used racer set of wheels for ferrari from sccc. We also run out of semi gloss clear coat. Had to use gloss.
But it doesn't really matter.


Congrats to Dennis. Your car not only runs good but look great too. When I seen it on forum first I thought this is a winner.

Tony Bovard asked me to give some technical info about the cars. I did not require a detailed list on entry, and some of the motor etc I wouldn't recognize, but I did weigh each car, except the one that has not yet arrived.

I recently bought a small scale that is excellent for weighing cars, chassis and components, so here are the weights of the cars. I'll let you be the judge to decide as we go along whether it is best to send a light or heavy car. I also described the main material from which the chassis is made.

Thanks for the weight/chassis material data, Keith. Looks like spring steel is starting to gain quite a presence in the US/Canada now as a chassis material. Most of the top performing cars in your qualification run are either steel or brass chassis.

Pics of the concourse cars are great! Some very nice work there.

From the photos, it appears that the "stainless" frames are actually spring steel, not stainless steel. There's a big difference, as the spring steel is much harder and can flex without taking a permanent bend. In most modern frames, the spring steel is laser cut, in the old days we used to cut it with a Dremel cut-off disc, usually many discs per frame!

Dennis correct me if i am wrong, but i think,the Penelope Pitlane chassis is nickel coated brass. Where as the Richard Mack is indeed Spring steel.
Nice to see the variety and will be interesting to see the performance.
A chart showing the chassis make would be ideal for comparing performance on track.
However i bet Keith is up to his eyes with busy lol.
I seem to recall some format that Christian used at SCCC for the All Canada Proxy.

Bob, the PP frames are "Nickel Silver" which is a 60% copper, 20% zinc, 20% nickel alloy, no actual silver, but the nickel gives it the silvery appearance.

The Mack frames are spring steel, and in the case of the one entered by Russell Sheldon, it has been nickel plated after assembly to prevent rust.

OK spring steel it is. On the surface it looked to me like stainless steel, but I am a brass builder and have no experience with it. All I know is it makes some very slick fast chassis.

We used anglewinder chassis for maserati and in line for lancia.
Maserati has way more better handling but that maybe also related to weight. Almost 10g difference. Both chassis went through some modification like permanent soldering all the pieces to get rid of the screws. Also tube was soldered between front axle holders and piano wire between rear bushing. Oiltie bushings. I really wanted to use mack chassis on my build maserati buy Richard never responded to emails and I end up with PP. so far so good . Will see tomorrow.

I think its important to know what you have or are getting as it has weight and flex implications among other things.
