Okay with me. One method is as good as another, but I wanted to be sure we had accepted it as THE way before I went after it.

I started filling mine with the Tamiya white putty. This stuff is weird and sticks to everything, I think I ended up with more on my fingers than the RSR, ruhro...

Decided to fill the 934 bolt on flare gap, once the Tamiya putty starts to sand down it really is nice.

Fellas, got to working towards the chassis last night and found that the wheels are very tight, too tight, to slide on the axles on three of the four wheels. Appears mainly on the inboard side of the wheel. Anybody else? Dont have the tooling to work on the bore so Im guessing its polishing the sheez out of those axles huh?

@SRQSloter - Rusty, what exactly do you mean about the supplied Fuchs inserts fittment, possibly elaborate? Are they too small or too big? (sorry, I haven't had the chance to test fit yet, been busy with focusing on the body). Are the Fuchs you used the MRRC versions? Just trying to get solution for us all.

Thanks for the heads up on the wheel/axle fittment.

Guess I got the odd ball. Sorry I opened my mouth. Or put my fingers on the keyboard.

Bibbster the Sadist.
Just imagine that one. Going back and forth watching the guy struggle, suggesting everything from a hydraulic ramjet peanut butter spreader to a carved brick. Worst practical joke of all time.

The Fuchs look like they will be good to go. JB thats funny, 1/43 scale... Rusty you're a good chap for hanging in there with this bunch.

I have a Q... What about final tire diameter? Can we sand them down to correct sidewall thickness and make the edges look period correct?

About the tight wheels... I keep a set of "chucking reamers" for this very reason. Plating, bad tolerances, peaning, and all kinds of other things can make fitting crown gears and wheels a miserable and frustrating task. I use drill blanks for my scratchbuilding axles, so the precision grind is consistent and I can use the same method to deal with any kind of wheel. That said, there is a lot of slop in "precision" machining. Even sets of drills have ridiculous variances. I am relieved by a wheel that is tight. I means my chucking reamer will make it as close to perfect as possible. And yes, do use oil to fit. Never tap the axle home, peaning the struck end and causing a whole new boatful of problems.

Yeah, mine look fine, too. I'm leaving them alone.

That brings up a question I have been wondering about... We have been building, collectively, very highly detailed scale racers. Its half the point of this unique exercise. Are we going to include a concours-type competition? This is the kind of thing that could launch a whole new feature to the hobby, within the general area of Home Racing and Scale Racing. Actually, its such a good idea, that it makes me wonder if I just never came across it before and its been out there all along. I know some of the British and Spanish clubs have done elaborate scale work based on specifics of tracks and cars, but a travelling gaggle of finescale cars run on a variety of tracks may be a new idea altogether?

So, are we going to judge the bodies?

Some more progress on the Nr.8 Aubergine RSR, I was able to sand the Tamiya putty and get the rear end sorted. What I've done is of course not required…

I made sure the rear bumper matched the real RSR as best as I can and how it attaches. You can see I etched, carved, used the square backside of my #11 xacto blade to craft out the body lines with more definition and added the long bumper joints out to the end of the rear of the flares. This includes all the lines around the tail lens, the rear panel, whale tail grille, rear deck lid, front hood, front bumper, etc. I also removed the side rocker panel rubber bumper strips, these are under the door on the rocker. All in all, not that bad for my first resin build and second ever 1/32 scale Porsche body build. There are some little bubbles on corners that are proving to keep chipping back off after I fill them with putty. I'll fill with CA glue and fix them for good! Hopefully, I'll be able to shoot some primer soon.

Cheers, Thompson
